A few posts ago I spoke here on the needles crochet, but specifically the type of needles that exist.
Now its time to talk about size.
  There are 4 needles measuring systems:
- mm: we are used to in Portugal, with unit of measurement in millimeters;
- US: American system;
- UK: system used in Canada and England, with unit of measure in inches;
- JP: Japanese system

We are used in Portugal with the milimetric system, which the numbering corresponds to the needle diameter millimeters. I think it will be difficult to decorate the equivalent systems of the American scales, English or Japanese.
But it is important, however, have were to consult the equivalence of needles so that we can see and follow models from other countries.

Hoje gostaria de falar sobre as agulhas de croché.

Ainda aguardo da minha primeira agulha de croché de 3mm em alumínio, com um cabo azul forte de plástico. A agulha que a minha tia Isabel me deu quando me começu a ensinar a fazer croché. Tinha na altura cerca de 5 anos, e os primeiros trabalhos que fiz foram pegas de cozinha, os chamados granny squares. Fazia pegas circulares, quadradas... só de uma cor, de diferentes cores... Comecei ainda a fazer mantas pequeninas para os meus gatos, imaginem!
Ficava horas naquilo... adorei desde o primeiro instante!

Still keep my first crochet hook size 3mm aluminum, with a strong blue plastic cable. The hook that my Aunt Elizabeth gave me when I began to learn crochet. I had at the time about 5 years, and the first works I did were kitchen handles, so-called granny squares. They were circulars, square handles ... just in a color, different colors ... I started to do even tiny blankets for my cats, imagine!
Spent hours doing that ... I loved from the first moment!

Normalmente, a agulha depende do tipo de linha ou lã que se vai trabalhar. Tem de se adequar a espessura da linha à agulha. A escolha do tamanho da agulha também vai ter influência directa no tamanho do trabalho realizado.
As agulhas são medidas em milímetros, e a medida indica o tamanho da agulha.

Typically, the hook depends on the type of line or wool that will work. It must suit the thickness of the line to the hook. The choice of the size of the hook will also have direct influence on the size of the work.
The needles are measured in milímetrs and the measurement indicates the size of the hook tip.

Aço Inox - São agulhas indicadas para usar com linhas de croché, isto é, fios finos, para realizar trabalhos mais delicados. Normalmente têm medidas entre 0,6mm a 2,0mm.

Stainless steel - are suitable for use with crochet lines, i.e. thin wires to perform more delicate work. Usually have measures between 0.6mm to 2.0mm.

Alumínio - São agulhas indicadas para lãs ou linhas mais grossas. Estas agulhas normalmente têm medidas entre 2,0mm e 7,0mm.

Aluminum - are indicated for hooks and wool thicker lines. These hooks are usually sizes between 2.0mm and 7.0mm.


Plástico - São também indicadas para trabalhar as lãs e linhas mais grossas como as agulhas de alumínio mas têm uma grande diferença, são mais leves. Normalmente apresentam medidas entre 5,0mm e os 20mm.

Plastic - are also indicated for working wool and thicker lines as aluminum hooks but have a big difference, they are lighter. Normally present sizes between 5.0mm and 20mm.


Bambu - Estas são as minhas agulhas favoritas por serem mais resistentes e leves, sendo óptimas para trabalhar, dando uma sensação de serem mais macias. Obviamente que à 26 anos, quando comecei a fazer croché, não havia estas agulhas, pelo menos em Portugal. Devido ao facto de não serem totalmente lisas são uma grande ajuda para quem está a começar porque ajudam a ganhar controle na agulha e na linha/lã e ajudar a encontrar a nossa própria tensão de trabalho. São muito boas também porque são deitas a partir de um recurso sustentável. Apresentam variadas medidas.

Bamboo - These are my favorite needles because they are more resistant and lightweight, and great for work, giving a feeling of being softer. Obviously, to 26 years, when I started to crochet, there were these needles, at least in Portugal. Because they are not entirely plain are a great help for those who are starting because they help gain control on the needle and thread / wool and help find our own tension of work. They are very good also because they are made from a sustainable resource. They have varied measures.

Hoje um trabalho mais delicado...
Todas nos lembramos dos #naperons que as nossas avós faziam ou que tinham nas suas casas. Eu sempre me lembro de ver a minha avó com os novelos de linhas normalmente da #Anchor, e com as #agulhas fininhas, a fazer trabalhos de #croché delicados, muito minuciosos. Ela sempre me ofereceu trabalhos feitos por ela, fossem eles naperons, picôs de toalhas de mesa ou de panos de cozinha, tanto como colchas inteirinhas, de uma ponta à outra de croché. Estas peças ficaram anos guardadas com o resto do enxoval, pois eu sou uma menina à antiga :)
Quando montei a minha casa, houve muito pouca coisa desse tipo de peças, à qual eu dei uso. Não por não lhes dar valor mas por não se adequarem ao meu gosto, nem a estilo de vida.
Os naperons são peças muito bonitas, super rendilhadas, com desenhos espantoso mas penso que devem ter uma nova vida.
Assim, numa parceria com a Loja do Sr. Jacinto, fiz este naperon em #linha #azulturquesa fornecida pelo próprio gerente.
Adorei o resultado final.

Today a more delicate work ...
All remember the #doilies that our grandmothers made or had in their homes. I always remember seeing my grandmother with skeins of lines normally #Anchor, and the thinly #needles, doing work delicate #crochet, very thorough. She always offered me #work done by her, they were doilies, tablecloths peaks or kitchen towels, as long quilts, from one end to the other of crochet. These pieces were years saved with the rest of the things because I'm a old fashion girl :)
When I moved to my home, there was very little of this type of pieces, to which I gave use. Not by not giving them value but because they not fit to my taste, nor the lifestyle.
The doilies are very #beautiful #pieces, super laced with stunning designs but I think that they should have a new life.
Thus, in partnership with the shop of Sr. Jacinto, I made this doily in #turquoise #yarn provided by the manager himself.
I loved the end result.
Its beautiful! The #color gives you another life does not it?

This time I bought these beautiful #ballofwool of #KatiaYarn brand. One of #skeins I bought is #KatiaAzteca, one of the references I like work with, The #wool is super #soft and the mixture of #colors is spectacular . The new #KatiaPampa . I've never worked with it but should do a different job due to its #texture . The thing that attracted me the most was the #color #tealI will put to work!
